The Force Commander of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), Major General Junhui Wu, has praised Rwandan peacekeepers for their professionalism and commitment during a visit to the Rwandan Battalion Three (Rwanbatt-3) deployed in Durupi.
Major General Wu visited the contingent on Thursday, accompanied by the Commander of UNMISS Sector South, Brigadier General Shishir Bharadwaj, and other senior officials from the mission headquarters.
The delegation was received by Rwanbatt-3 Commander Colonel Innocent Rwaka Muhirwe, who briefed the visitors on the battalion’s operations, progress in implementing its peacekeeping mandate and the challenges encountered in the field.
During the visit, Major General Wu commended the Rwandan troops for their discipline, professionalism and dedication to the United Nations peacekeeping mission, describing their contribution as essential to the mission’s objectives in South Sudan.
He urged the peacekeepers to remain vigilant and maintain operational readiness, stressing the importance of executing their duties in line with United Nations principles and standards.
“We must remain vigilant and continue to carry out our duties effectively,” Major General Wu told the troops, encouraging them to uphold the professionalism and commitment that have become hallmarks of Rwandan peacekeeping contingents.
Rwanda is among the largest contributors to United Nations peacekeeping operations globally, with thousands of military and police personnel deployed in missions across Africa. In South Sudan, Rwandan peacekeepers play a key role in protecting civilians, supporting humanitarian operations and helping maintain peace and stability in the conflict-affected country.
