Mukura VS&L has officially welcomed Serbian coach Momcilo Medic as the club’s new head coach, with the experienced tactician arriving in Huye to lead preparations for the 2026/27 football season.
Medic arrived in Rwanda on Wednesday and travelled directly to Huye District, where he met Mukura players and watched an evening training session at Kamena Stadium before taking charge of the team.
The 64-year-old coach joins Mukura with extensive experience across African football, having managed clubs in several countries and won the Burundi Premier League title with Flambeau du Centre in the 2021/22 season.
He has also coached Burundi’s Messager Ngozi and Royal Vision, while his career includes spells with South Africa’s Orlando Pirates and Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila, Nigeria’s Enyimba FC, Ghana’s Ashanti Gold and King Faisal FC, and Zambia’s Power Dynamos.
Mukura turned to Medic after ending its relationship with Nshimiyimana Canisius, who coached the team during the previous season before moving to Amagaju FC.
The club had earlier reached an agreement with Czech coach Tomáš Trucha, who arrived in Huye ready to begin work, but the two sides later parted ways before he managed a match after he requested to leave following another offer. Mukura reportedly received close to Rwf15 million in compensation from the separation.
Medic’s arrival comes as Mukura continues strengthening its squad ahead of the new campaign. The club has signed several new players, including goalkeeper Ndagijimana Leandre from Gasogi United, Niyonizeye Telesphore and Abumuremyi from AS Muhanga, Ugandan forward Freedom Mungudit from Lugazi FC, midfielder Dusabimana Olivier from Unity FC, and Niyonkuru Sadjati from Etincelles FC.
The Huye-based side has also renewed contracts for key players, including Irumva Justin and Agyenim Boateng Mensah, while promoting three youngsters from its academy — Tuyishime Kennedy, Ndagijimana Ashirafu and Ishimwe Jean Pierre — as part of its preparations for the 2026/27 season.
