Rwanda’s Land Force Commander, Maj Gen Vincent Nyakarundi, has visited Rwandan troops deployed in the Central African Republic (CAR), commending them for their professionalism and contribution to peace and security.
Maj Gen Nyakarundi is visiting CAR as part of an official trip during which he met Rwandan soldiers serving under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), as well as those deployed under Rwanda-CAR bilateral arrangements.
Accompanied by a delegation, he visited the RWABAT-1 battalion at Socatel M’Poko in Bangui, where he met the unit’s commanders and praised the troops for their dedication and commitment to fulfilling their peacekeeping responsibilities.
He also conveyed President Paul Kagame’s message of appreciation to the soldiers for their role in promoting peace and security in the country.
During his engagement with the troops, Maj Gen Nyakarundi briefed them on Rwanda’s security situation and developments in the wider region.
He urged them to maintain high standards of discipline and professionalism, uphold the values of the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) and continue safeguarding the reputation of the Rwandan military while carrying out their duties abroad.
Maj Gen Nyakarundi also held talks with Lt Gen Humphrey Nyone, the Force Commander of MINUSCA, focusing on the UN mission and the contribution of Rwandan troops to peacekeeping operations in CAR.
His visit also includes a planned graduation ceremony for members of the Central African Armed Forces (FACA) who have undergone training conducted by the RDF.
He is further expected to meet senior MINUSCA officials and leaders of the Central African Armed Forces as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation on peace and security.
