Rwanda international defender Imanishimwe Emmanuel, popularly known as Mangwende, is set to continue his career in India after Chennaiyin FC moved to sign the experienced left-back.

The Indian Super League side has been in advanced talks to complete the signing of the 31-year-old Rwanda international, who recently ended his spell with Cypriot club AEL Limassol.

The move would take Imanishimwe to a third country outside Rwanda after previous spells in Morocco and Cyprus, adding another chapter to his international club career.

Imanishimwe began making a name for himself at Rayon Sports before joining APR FC in 2015. He spent six years with the military side before moving to Morocco, where he joined AS FAR Rabat.

During his time at AS FAR, he won the Moroccan league title in the 2022-23 season before moving to AEL Limassol in Cyprus in 2024.

The left-back has also established himself as a regular member of the Rwanda national team whenever available for selection. His experience with AS FAR and AEL Limassol has given him considerable exposure to football outside Rwanda.

Chennaiyin FC competes in India’s top-flight Indian Super League and has been preparing its squad for the new campaign.

If completed, Imanishimwe’s move to Chennaiyin will make India the latest destination in his growing international career and provide him with another opportunity to compete in a different football environment.
