Rwanda’s U-18 men’s basketball team has been eliminated from the 2026 FIBA U18 AfroBasket after losing 60-53 to Tunisia in its final Group C match on Monday.
The defeat ended Rwanda’s hopes of advancing to the knockout stage after the team failed to win any of its three group matches.
Rwanda made a difficult start to the game, trailing 16-6 at the end of the opening quarter. The team improved in the second quarter but could not overturn the early deficit.
Bizimana Kayira Plamedie led Rwanda with 11 points, while Mohamed Keita and Ngabonziza Hugo Victor each contributed 10 points.
Tunisia maintained its advantage through the remainder of the game to secure the victory and finish third in Group C.
Cameroon topped the group, followed by Senegal, while Tunisia finished third and Rwanda fourth.
Rwanda’s elimination means the team will now compete in the classification matches for the lower positions.
The team coached by Mugabe Aristide will return to action on Wednesday, August 12, against Gabon in the 9th–12th place classification round.
The match is scheduled for 10:30pm Kigali time.
The winner of the Rwanda-Gabon match will face the winner of the Morocco-Nigeria encounter for ninth place, while the losing teams will meet to determine 11th and 12th place.
