Rwanda earned more than Rwf14.5 billion from exporting agricultural and livestock products in just five days, highlighting the growing contribution of the sector to the country’s foreign exchange earnings.
Data from the National Agricultural Export Board (NAEB) shows that the country exported 8,863 tonnes of agricultural and livestock products between August 3 and 7, 2026, generating more than $9 million in revenue.
Coffee was the top earner, bringing in more than Rwf3 billion during the five-day period, while tea generated over Rwf2.6 billion.
Vegetables were another major contributor, earning more than Rwf1.2 billion, while livestock products generated Rwf744 million.
Fruit exports brought in nearly Rwf463 million, while flowers generated about Rwf58 million.
Other processed products made from agricultural commodities also contributed to the overall export earnings.
Coffee and tea lead export earnings
The figures underline the continued importance of coffee and tea to Rwanda’s agricultural export sector, with the two commodities accounting for a substantial share of the revenue recorded during the five-day period.
Rwanda’s agricultural products were exported to a range of international markets, including the Netherlands, India, France, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Vietnam and the United States.
The country also exported agricultural and livestock products to several African markets.
The latest performance comes as Rwanda continues efforts to expand agricultural exports through increased production, improved quality, value addition and access to international markets.
Boosting agricultural exports is also seen as an important avenue for increasing farmers’ incomes, creating jobs and strengthening the sector’s contribution to the national economy.
