Former Rwanda international goalkeeper Kimenyi Yves and media personality Uwase Muyango Claudine have begun legal proceedings to end their marriage.
The couple appeared before the Gasabo Primary Court on Friday, August 14, 2026, for the first hearing in their divorce case. The proceedings were held in camera and lasted only a few minutes.
Their court appearance follows reports that the couple had been facing difficulties in their relationship and were no longer living together.
Kimenyi and Muyango legally married in January 2024 and held their wedding ceremony on January 6 of the same year. Their relationship had become public several years earlier, with reports of their romance dating back to 2019. They also have a son, Kimenyi Miguel Yanis.
Kimenyi, who built a career as a goalkeeper, played for several Rwandan clubs, including APR FC, Rayon Sports, Kiyovu Sports and AS Kigali, as well as the Rwanda national team, Amavubi.
In February 2026, he announced his retirement from football following a serious leg injury sustained in October 2023 while playing for AS Kigali.
Muyango rose to prominence after being named Miss Photogenic during the 2019 Miss Rwanda beauty pageant. She later gained a large following on social media and has worked as a master of ceremonies and television personality.
The couple’s divorce proceedings have attracted public attention because of their prominence in Rwanda’s sports and entertainment circles.
The specific grounds for the divorce have not been made public, as the case is being heard privately.
