Rayon Sports have signed Burundian midfielder Elie Mokono, popularly known as Eldhino, as they continue strengthening their squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The club confirmed the signing on Friday evening, August 14, 2026.

Mokono joins from Tanzanian side Fountain Gate and is a regular member of the Burundi national team, Intamba mu Rugamba. Although he represents Burundi internationally, he was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The 26-year-old attacking midfielder is expected to add creativity and attacking threat to Rayon Sports’ midfield as the club prepares for domestic competition and the CAF Confederation Cup.

He joins a midfield that includes Issa Djiguiba, Ibrahim Djingarey, Muderi Akbar, Nisingizwe Christian, Nkundimana Fabio, Tony Kitoga, Tambwe Gloire and Iradukunda Pascal.

Mokono is expected to arrive in Rwanda on Tuesday, August 18, to begin his stint with the club.

His signing follows the collapse of negotiations between Rayon Sports and Rwandan midfielder Ruboneka Jean Bosco, who is currently without a club after leaving APR FC.

Mokono becomes Rayon Sports’ 16th signing of the summer transfer window and the club’s 10th foreign recruit. The club recently announced Ivorian defender Mohamed Ouattara, who is also expected in Kigali on August 18.

Rayon Sports now have 14 foreign players in their squad, while only eight foreign players can be included on the match sheet in domestic competitions. This leaves head coach Haringingo Francis Christian with a challenging task of selecting his matchday squad.

The club, fresh from winning the CECAFA Kagame Cup, is continuing its preparations for the new season and is scheduled to face Kenya’s Mathare United in a friendly on Sunday, August 16.
