A man has been arrested in Kacyiru Sector, Gasabo District, in connection with the alleged killing of his wife during a domestic dispute.
The incident occurred on Friday evening in Itetero Village, Kamatamu Cell, where residents reported that Daniel Munyensanga allegedly attacked his wife, Delphine Mukagasana, at their home.
Neighbours said the couple had a history of domestic disputes and alleged that Munyensanga had previously assaulted Mukagasana. They said she had sustained injuries in earlier incidents and had reportedly raised complaints about the alleged abuse.
One neighbour said the incident happened at around 7:30 p.m. after Munyensanga returned home.
Kigali City Police spokesperson CIP Wellars Gahonzire confirmed that Munyensanga had been arrested after residents alerted the Police.
“We received information from residents who alerted the Police that a man identified as Munyensanga Daniel had killed his wife, Mukagasana Delphine, with whom he was living, although they were not legally married,” Gahonzire said.
He added that preliminary information indicated that the couple had been experiencing longstanding disagreements, with the man allegedly accusing his wife of infidelity.
Mukagasana’s body was taken to Kacyiru Hospital, while Munyensanga was detained at Kacyiru Police Station as investigations continue.
The couple had three children. Two were Mukagasana’s children from a previous relationship, while the third was a child she had with Munyensanga.
Police urged residents to report domestic violence and serious family disputes to authorities so that timely intervention can prevent conflicts from escalating.
