Rwanda is seeking to deepen its capital market and expand private-sector investment following a meeting between Prime Minister Justin Nsengiyumva and Marc Holtzman, Chairperson of the Rwanda Capital Market Authority (CMA).
The two met on August 28, 2026, to discuss ways of strengthening the capital market, supporting private-sector growth and unlocking investment opportunities in line with Rwanda’s development ambitions. The meeting was confirmed by the Office of the Prime Minister.
The discussions come as Rwanda seeks to use the capital market more effectively to mobilise long-term financing and widen investment opportunities.
CMA is responsible for developing, regulating and supervising the capital market to promote transparency, market stability and investor confidence.
The authority also promotes savings and investment, including among young people, while working to protect investors against fraud and other forms of market misconduct.
According to figures cited by CMA, transactions conducted through Rwanda’s capital market over its 15 years of operation have reached about Rwf28 trillion, more than the country’s annual GDP.
Secondary-market transactions account for about Rwf25.3 trillion of that total.
The scale of these transactions highlights the growing role of Rwanda’s capital market in mobilising finance and creating investment opportunities for businesses and investors.
The meeting between Nsengiyumva and Holtzman comes as Rwanda continues efforts to strengthen its financial markets and increase the contribution of private investment to economic growth.
