Gatsinzi Venuste and Niyonkuru Gloire have won the 2026 Mamba Open Beach Tournament after defeating Nzirimo Mandela and Munezero Cedrick 2-0 in the men’s final.
The final was played on Sunday, August 30, at ABCD Sports Club in Niboye Sector, Kicukiro District, as the three-day beach volleyball tournament came to an end.
Gatsinzi, who plays for Gisagara VC, and Gloire of Police VC dominated the final to secure the championship against Mandela of EAUR VC and Cedrick of APR VC.
The champions had reached the final after a 2-1 victory over Dusengimana Fred of REG VC and Tuyizere Aimable of KVC.
Mandela and Cedrick, meanwhile, booked their place in the final with a 2-0 win over Mbonigaba Vincent and Hakeem Mukaila, both of APR VC.
Fred and Aimable settled for third place after losing their semifinal match.
Organised by Medwell Initiative, the Mamba Open Beach Tournament featured professional and veteran categories, bringing together players, coaches, referees and volleyball fans.
The veterans’ competition used teams of three players, instead of the usual two-player format in beach volleyball, taking into account the physical demands of the game for former players.
Yves, Shingiro and Eric won the veterans’ title after beating Mana, Jimmy and Fils 2-0 (21-11, 21-17) in the final.
Mana, Jimmy and Fils had reached the final after defeating Muyango, Robert and Lambert 2-0, while Yves, Shingiro and Eric overcame Dieudonne, Viateur and Bonane.
The tournament was organised to keep former volleyball players engaged in the sport while promoting physical activity and social interaction among members of the volleyball community.
