Rwanda and Botswana have agreed to strengthen military cooperation, focusing on joint training, knowledge sharing and the professional development of their armed forces.
The agreement was reached during talks between Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) Chief of Defence Staff General MK Mubarakh and his Botswana counterpart, General Mpho Churchill Mophuting, at RDF headquarters in Kimihurura.
Mophuting is in Rwanda to attend the 2026 meeting of the Eastern and Southern Africa Anti-Money Laundering Group (ESAAMLG).
The two army chiefs discussed ways to expand existing cooperation between the RDF and Botswana Defence Force (BDF), including joint training programmes and the exchange of military expertise and experience.
The talks are expected to strengthen the capabilities and professionalism of personnel in both forces.
Mophuting has served in the Botswana Defence Force for more than 35 years, holding various leadership, training and planning positions before being appointed commander of the BDF in 2025.
The meeting highlights continued defence and security engagement between Rwanda and Botswana, as both countries seek to strengthen military capacity and professional exchanges.
