Former Rwanda international goalkeeper Kimenyi Yves has broken his silence on his relationship with Muyango Claudine, revealing how he views her following months of speculation about their reported separation.
Kimenyi addressed the subject during an interview on the Beyond 90 Initiative YouTube channel, where he reflected on his football career, personal life and the projects he has pursued since retiring from the game.
The former Amavubi goalkeeper was asked directly about his separation from Muyango and the current state of their relationship amid widespread discussion on social media.
Kimenyi, however, was reluctant to go into detail, saying he did not believe it was the right time to discuss the circumstances surrounding their separation.
“I don’t think this is the time to go into the details,” he said, choosing not to elaborate further.
Asked how he regards Muyango today, Kimenyi gave an answer that suggested their relationship has evolved but that they continue to share a close bond.
He described Muyango as “the mother of my child” and “my close friend,” while stopping short of confirming whether they are still married.
His remarks come as speculation surrounding the pair’s relationship continues to attract attention on social media. Their followers have repeatedly questioned what happened between them and whether they have officially gone their separate ways.
Kimenyi did not address the reasons behind the reported separation, but his comments indicated that Muyango remains an important person in his life because of their shared history and the child they have together.
Kimenyi explains decision to retire
Beyond his personal life, Kimenyi also reflected on his decision to retire from football in February 2026, revealing that recurring injuries contributed to his decision to walk away from the game.
He said retirement was a decision he had considered for some time, although several factors delayed the process.
“I had thought about it after finishing my football career, but some things got in the way and delayed the process. I wanted to do something that would help people, whether they are already playing football or just starting out,” he said.
Since leaving the pitch, Kimenyi has focused his attention on Beyond 90 Initiative, a project designed to create conversations around football while also sharing knowledge and life experiences beyond the sport.
The platform gives Kimenyi an opportunity to draw on his own experiences as a professional footballer and engage young people and sports enthusiasts on issues affecting their careers, personal development and everyday lives.
