President Paul Kagame was hosted by Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq at a dinner in his honour as he began a two-day official visit to the Sultanate.
The dinner was held on the evening of September 7 at Al-Husn Al-Amir Palace in Salalah, where Kagame and members of the Rwandan delegation were received by the Sultan.
Before the dinner, Kagame and Sultan Haitham exchanged gifts in a gesture highlighting the cordial relations between Rwanda and Oman.
Kagame arrived in Salalah on September 7 for his first visit to Oman as President of Rwanda.
The visit is focused on strengthening bilateral ties and exploring new opportunities for cooperation between the two countries.
During talks between the two leaders and their delegations, discussions centred on areas with potential for deeper cooperation, including energy, transport and agriculture.
Rwanda’s Office of the President said Kagame and Sultan Haitham viewed the visit as an opportunity to build on the longstanding relationship between the two countries and expand cooperation into new areas.
The visit also includes engagements focused on Oman’s heritage and agricultural development.
Kagame is scheduled to visit the Museum of the Frankincense Land at Al Baleed Archaeological Park, a historic site recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
He is also expected to tour Razat Royal Farm, a more than 404-hectare royal agricultural estate in Dhofar that is involved in agricultural production, tourism and education.
The visit comes as Rwanda and Oman seek to deepen relations that have developed over more than four decades of diplomatic ties.
Beyond political relations, the two countries are looking to identify practical areas of cooperation that could expand trade, investment and knowledge exchange.
Kagame’s visit is therefore expected to provide an opportunity for both sides to assess existing cooperation while exploring new partnerships in sectors considered important to their respective development priorities.
