Rwanda’s Habumugisha Dieudonne finished as the leading assist provider at the 2026 African U-20 Handball Championship in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, earning a place among the tournament’s top performers.
Habumugisha recorded 32 assists that resulted in goals, finishing ahead of Egypt’s Youssef Laoloua and Nigeria’s Faruk Kareem, who each registered 29.
The tournament concluded on Saturday, September 12, with Egypt defeating Tunisia 31-29 in the final to retain the continental title.
The victory secured Egypt’s fourth consecutive U-20 African title and 15th overall in the 33 editions of the competition.
Rwanda finished eighth among the 16 participating teams, missing out on one of the five qualification places for next year’s U-21 World Championship in North Macedonia.
Attention now turns to the African U-18 Championship, which begins Tuesday, September 15, in Abidjan and runs until September 22.
Rwanda’s U-18 team has already arrived in Côte d’Ivoire and will compete in Group C alongside Morocco and Libya.
The tournament will be the 22nd edition of the African U-18 Handball Championship.
