Rwandan journalist Emmanuel Ndahiro, popularly known as Taikun Ndahiro, has been remanded in custody for 30 days by Kicukiro Primary Court as investigations continue into charges including drug use.
The court announced its decision on Wednesday, September 16, following a hearing held on September 10.
During the hearing, Ndahiro asked the court to release him and allow him to undergo rehabilitation at a treatment centre rather than remain in custody. The court rejected the request and ordered that he be held at Nyarugenge Prison.
Ndahiro was arrested on August 26 and is facing charges including drug use and resisting security officials.
His arrest followed a dispute with his housemate, known as DJ Lenzo. Security officials intervened during the incident, but Ndahiro allegedly confronted them, assaulted one of the officers and resisted their intervention.
Following his arrest, Ndahiro underwent a drug test. Authorities said the test detected a level of 280 of a substance identified as cannabis.
The 30-day remand period will allow investigators to continue gathering evidence before the case proceeds to the next stage.
