Col. (Rtd) Jeannot K. Ruhunga has officially assumed his duties as Rwanda’s representative to Poland after presenting copies of his credentials to Polish authorities in Warsaw.
On September 18, 2026, Ruhunga presented the copies to Wojciech Zajączkowski, Deputy Director at Poland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during a ceremony marking the start of his diplomatic assignment.
The two officials discussed ways to strengthen Rwanda-Poland relations and expand cooperation across various sectors.
Ruhunga thanked the Polish authorities for the warm reception he has received since arriving in the country, describing Poland as an important and trusted partner. He said Rwanda values its longstanding friendship with Poland and expressed his commitment to working with Polish institutions to further deepen bilateral ties.
President Paul Kagame appointed Ruhunga as Rwanda’s representative to Poland on June 10, 2026, succeeding Prof. Anastase Shyaka, who served in the position for more than five years.
Ruhunga brings extensive experience in Rwanda’s security and justice sectors. He served as Director General of the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) from April 2018 to March 2025 and was the institution’s first Secretary General when it began operations.
Before leading RIB, Ruhunga held several senior positions in Rwanda’s security and justice institutions. His career included service in the Rwanda Defence Force, where he served as acting head of military intelligence at RDF headquarters. He also served as a judge at the Military High Court and as Commissioner in charge of investigations at the Rwanda National Police.
Rwanda opened its embassy in Warsaw in 2021, marking a step toward strengthening diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
Rwanda and Poland have continued to broaden their cooperation, including in trade, investment and development initiatives.
