Axel Rudakubana, who is serving a 52-year prison sentence for killing three children in the 2024 Southport attack, has appeared in court over allegations that he assaulted prison staff.
At Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday, September 21, 2026, prosecutors alleged that Rudakubana threw hot water at a member of staff at Belmarsh prison and punched another worker in the face.
He is also accused of threatening a female prison worker, allegedly telling her he would throw hot water over her, and of assaulting other prison and security staff.
Rudakubana appeared at the hearing remotely from Broadmoor Hospital, a high-security psychiatric hospital. He is due to appear before the Old Bailey on October 19, 2026.
Rudakubana was sentenced to 52 years in prison in January 2025 after pleading guilty to the murders of three children — Silva Aguiar, Bebe King and Elsie Dot Stancombe — and the attempted murders of 10 other people.
The children were killed in a knife attack in Southport on July 29, 2024. Rudakubana also admitted attempting to kill 10 other people, including eight children.
He pleaded guilty to the offences at Liverpool Crown Court on January 20, 2025. He was 17 when the attacks took place.
