APR BBC have strengthened their title ambitions with the signing of Senegalese center Maouhamadou Diagne, adding one of Africa’s premier defensive players to their roster ahead of the Rwanda Basketball League playoffs.
The 2.03-metre center joins the military side for the remainder of the 2026 season as APR look to reinforce their squad for a decisive run in both the regular season and the postseason.
Diagne arrives from Moroccan champions FUS Rabat, where he played a key role in the club’s domestic league triumph before featuring in the 2026 Basketball Africa League (BAL).
Although FUS Rabat exited the BAL in the quarter-finals following defeat to Rwanda’s RSSB Tigers, Diagne’s outstanding defensive displays earned him a place in the All-BAL Defensive First Team, cementing his reputation as one of the continent’s elite defenders.
He was named alongside Mangok Mathiang of RSSB Tigers, Mohamed Sadi of Al Ahly Ly, Aminu Mohamed of Club Africain and Childe Dundao of Petro de Luanda.
APR BBC currently occupy second place in the Rwanda Basketball League standings with 25 points from 13 games, having won 12 of their 13 matches. Their only defeat this season came against RSSB Tigers in an 89-80 loss on March 1.
With three regular-season games still to play, APR remain firmly in contention to finish atop the standings. Winning at least two of their remaining fixtures would significantly boost their chances of securing the top seed heading into the playoffs.
Coach James Edwards Maye Jr’s side faces a challenging conclusion to the regular season, beginning with a clash against REG BBC on July 15, followed by a highly anticipated encounter with league leaders Patriots BBC on July 17 before wrapping up the campaign against RSSB Tigers on July 24.
The signing of Diagne provides APR BBC with proven continental experience and additional defensive strength as the club intensifies its pursuit of the Rwanda Basketball League title.
