Rwandan singer Bwiza Emerance has spoken publicly for the first time about her past relationship with Abdul, who once proposed to her and gave her an engagement ring, saying she has no desire to revisit the past as she has moved on with her life.

She made the remarks during an Instagram question-and-answer session with her followers. One user asked her about photos and videos that have recently circulated on social media, showing moments she shared with Abdul.

In her response, Bwiza acknowledged that everyone has a past but said people should not remain stuck in it. Instead, she encouraged focusing on the present and future goals.

“The only thing I can say about it is that everyone has a past, but we do not live in the past every day. We wake up, do other things and set goals for tomorrow. The past therefore remains the past. The appropriate time for me to have responded to such things was when I was still a girl. That was when I could have commented on them, but today I am a married woman,” she said.

She added that family and relationship matters should not be turned into social media discussions, arguing that such issues have appropriate ways of being addressed and resolved.

“Anything involving family has its own way of being discussed and resolved. These are not matters to be taken to social media, because that is not where you find solutions. They should be discussed within the family, and if a matter requires legal intervention, the law has its own way of addressing it. Family is something to be respected; it should not be brought to social media,” she said.

Bwiza’s comments come amid discussions on social media about her past relationship with Abdul, which reportedly reached the stage of preparations for marriage.

Reports circulating online indicate that Abdul once organised a ceremony to ask Bwiza to become his wife and presented her with an engagement ring as a sign of their commitment to marry. However, the relationship later ended, with claims that Bwiza returned the ring.

Although various reasons for their separation have been discussed, neither party has publicly provided a detailed account of what led to the end of the relationship.

On October 23, 2026, Bwiza and Uhumujimfura Jean Claude legally formalised their marriage at Kimihurura Sector in Gasabo District.

The couple have worked together in the music industry for five years, dating back to 2021, when Bwiza began her career as a recording artist.
