A local official in the Central African Republic (CAR) has commended Rwandan peacekeepers for their cooperation with residents and local security forces in efforts to improve security and restore peace.

Ker Gos-Ngar, head of the Sam-Ouandja sub-prefecture, made the remarks during a community work exercise on Saturday, October 17, 2026, which brought together Rwandan troops, local security personnel and residents to clean a school compound.

The activity aimed to improve hygiene and create a cleaner learning environment for students.

Gos-Ngar said the initiative demonstrated cooperation between the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), Rwandan troops, national security forces and local communities in promoting peace, security and development.

He noted that Sam-Ouandja had previously been occupied by armed groups, but security had gradually improved following the deployment of MINUSCA peacekeepers, including Rwandan forces. The improved situation had enabled more children to return to school, he said.

The official also praised Rwandan troops and Central African security forces for conducting joint military operations to protect civilians and help residents carry out their daily activities in greater safety.

Lt Col David Ngabonziza, commander of Rwanda Battle Group VIII, said participation in the community work exercise reaffirmed Rwanda’s commitment to supporting local communities and working with national security agencies and local authorities to promote peace, security and the welfare of people in the Central African Republic.
