Zhengzhou Electric Power College (ZEPC), a Chinese institution specialising in energy-related studies, has welcomed the second cohort of Rwandan students who will pursue training at the university.
Under cooperation between Rwanda and China, young Rwandans are being sent to China to study energy-related fields. So far, 36 Rwandan students have been admitted to ZEPC.
Paul Umukunzi, Director General of the Rwanda TVET Board (RTB), attended the official opening of the training programme on Monday, October 19, 2026.
He said developing a skilled workforce was essential as Rwanda continues to grow its economy and accelerate national development.
Umukunzi urged the students to make the most of the opportunity, remain committed to their studies and acquire skills that meet the needs of the energy sector.
He also encouraged them to return to Rwanda with practical expertise that would enable them to contribute to the country’s development, particularly in electricity and energy.
Umukunzi thanked the Chinese government, its education authorities, ZEPC, Forever Technology and other partners for supporting the cooperation aimed at strengthening the technical and vocational skills of Rwandan youth.
The programme comes as Rwanda continues to invest in technical and vocational education and training to equip young people with skills demanded by the labour market and develop a capable workforce to support growth across various sectors, including energy.
