Youth volunteers in Huye District have been urged to play a greater role in maintaining security, preventing crime and reporting issues affecting residents in a timely manner.
The call was made on 28 September 2026 during discussions bringing together youth volunteers and officials from different institutions.
Huye Deputy Mayor for Social Affairs, Kankesha Annonciata, urged the volunteers to engage more closely with residents, understand the challenges they face and help find solutions.
“We ask you to continue engaging with residents, understand their challenges and help them find solutions,” she said.
Kabanda Jean Marie Vianne, an official responsible for volunteer activities at the Ministry of Local Government, encouraged volunteers to provide information promptly and contribute to security and good governance.
CSP Urujeni Jacky, the Rwanda National Police coordinator for youth volunteers, said young volunteers have an important role in preventing crime. She urged them to continue working closely with security authorities and report concerns early.
“Youth volunteers are important partners in maintaining security and promoting good governance,” she said.
Lt Col M. Kanamugire, the military commander for Huye, Gisagara and Nyaruguru districts, also called on young people to help prevent crime, avoid drug abuse and work with security agencies to maintain peace and safety.
The discussions also encouraged young people to avoid illicit alcohol and drugs, promote Rwandan values and help address challenges including school dropouts.
One of the volunteers who attended the discussions said they were ready to continue supporting residents, particularly by sharing information and taking part in activities aimed at improving their wellbeing.
