The Rwanda Premier League, which oversees the men’s top-flight football competition, has fined Kigali FC and Gicumbi FC for violating regulations by changing players’ jersey numbers.
The violations occurred during a fourth-round BK Pro League match between the two teams on October 9, 2026, at Kigali Pelé Stadium. Kigali FC won the match 1-0, with Habimana Yves scoring the only goal.
Gicumbi FC changed the jersey numbers of three players, while Kigali FC changed the number of one player.
In a statement released on Thursday, October 15, the Rwanda Premier League said the two clubs had breached Article 14, paragraph 3, of the BK Pro League regulations and would therefore face disciplinary sanctions.
Gicumbi FC was fined Rwf300,000, while Kigali FC was ordered to pay Rwf100,000. Both clubs must settle their fines before their next BK Pro League matches.
Under the competition’s regulations, a player’s jersey number must match the number recorded on the official match sheet submitted to the match commissioner or match coordinator.
A team that fields a player wearing a number different from the one recorded on the match sheet, or changes a player’s jersey number before a match without prior authorisation, is liable to a fine.
