Nyamagabe District has ranked first among Rwanda’s 30 districts for the registration of births and deaths through the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) system.
Data released by the Ministry of Local Government (MINALOC) through the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics programme shows that Nyamagabe ranked first with a score of 95.4 percent, followed by Nyarugenge at 95.3 percent and Gicumbi in third place with 94.7 percent.
Gakenke ranked fourth with 94.6 percent, while Ruhango and Rusizi ranked fifth and sixth, respectively, with both districts scoring 93.8 percent.
Kamonyi and Nyaruguru followed in seventh and eighth place, with scores of 93.2 percent, while Huye ranked ninth at 93.1 percent.
Muhanga and Kicukiro each scored 92.9 percent, followed by Musanze at 92.1 percent, Ngoma at 91.8 percent, Nyabihu at 91.3 percent, and Burera at 91.2 percent.
In the middle of the ranking, Gisagara and Nyanza shared 16th and 17th place, respectively, with each scoring 90.8 percent. They were followed by Kayonza at 90.5 percent and Nyamasheke at 90 percent.
Rubavu scored 89.8 percent, Karongi 89.6 percent, Kirehe 89 percent, Ngororero 88.7 percent, Rulindo 88.6 percent, and Gasabo 88.3 percent. Bugesera and Rwamagana each scored 87.8 percent.
The three districts at the bottom of the ranking were Rutsiro in 28th place with 87 percent, Gatsibo with 80.7 percent, and Nyagatare in 30th and final place with an average score of 80.5 percent.
The scores were based on the districts’ performance in registering births and deaths, as well as conducting verbal autopsies to assess information related to causes of death.
The assessment covered a one-year period, from July 1, 2025, to July 15, 2026, using data from the Health Management Information System (HMIS), NCI-CRVS and verbal autopsy records.
CRVS is a system designed to help record and manage vital information about the population, particularly births and deaths. It also enables the country to obtain reliable statistics for planning and decision-making.
The programme was launched in 2020 and currently provides nine services digitally. These include birth registration, death registration, marriage registration, divorce registration, annulment of marriage, child recognition, child adoption, authorization to adopt a child, and recognition of a child by a parent.
