The Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr. Usta Kaitesi, has received copies of the letters of credence from the newly appointed ambassadors of Oman and New Zealand, formally accrediting them to represent their countries in Rwanda.
Ambassador Nasra bint Salim bin Mohammed Al Hashmi has been appointed as Oman’s Ambassador to Rwanda and will be based in Nairobi, Kenya, while Olivia Charlotte Owen, New Zealand’s Ambassador to Rwanda, will be resident in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The presentation of copies of credentials marks an important diplomatic step before ambassadors formally present their letters of credence to the President of Rwanda and officially assume their duties.
Rwanda and the Sultanate of Oman have continued to strengthen bilateral relations, with cooperation spanning diplomacy, trade, transport and investment.
In recent years, the two countries have signed several agreements aimed at facilitating travel, promoting investment and expanding cooperation in technology and other strategic sectors.
Most recently, Oman’s low-cost carrier, SalamAir, launched direct flights between Muscat and Kigali. The airline operates twice-weekly services on Tuesdays and Thursdays, enhancing connectivity between the two countries while providing passengers with convenient onward connections to destinations across the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Europe.
Relations between Rwanda and New Zealand have also continued to grow through cooperation in political affairs, trade and investment.
The two countries recently signed a cooperation agreement establishing a framework for regular political consultations, enabling dialogue on bilateral, regional and international issues.
The agreement is also expected to strengthen collaboration in key sectors, including trade, investment and development, while promoting closer high-level engagement between the two governments.
The accreditation of the two ambassadors is expected to further deepen Rwanda’s diplomatic ties with both Oman and New Zealand and support the implementation of existing and future areas of cooperation.
