REG W BBC has moved to within two victories of retaining the Rwanda Women’s Basketball League title after defeating The Hoops Rwanda 77-48 in Game 2 of the Cheetah Energy Rwanda Basketball League Playoffs on Saturday.
The victory at BK Arena gave REG a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven championship series, putting the reigning champions in a strong position to claim a third consecutive league title.
REG, coached by Mukaneza Esperance, controlled the game from the start, taking an 18-12 lead in the opening quarter before producing a dominant 26-8 second quarter to establish a 44-20 advantage at halftime.
The Hoops showed a stronger response after the break, winning the third quarter 18-15, but REG remained firmly in control and closed out the game with an 18-10 final quarter.
Irakoze Ange Nelly led REG’s scoring with 15 points, while also recording nine rebounds and two steals. King Kristina Morgan added 13 points, Tetero Odile scored 11, while Washington Delicia Ty’rae and Hosendove Taylor Lynn contributed 10 points apiece.
REG will face The Hoops again in Game 3 on Monday, August 24, at 7 p.m. at BK Arena. Two more wins would be enough for REG to complete a successful title defence.
Meanwhile, APR W BBC was awarded a 20-0 victory over Kepler W BBC in the third-place playoff after Kepler failed to show up for Saturday’s scheduled game.
Kepler reportedly decided not to continue in the third-place series after being eliminated by The Hoops Rwanda in the semifinals.
As a result, APR, which last won the league title in 2024, is set to take the bronze medal if Kepler maintains its decision to withdraw from the third-place contest.
