Internal divisions within the Rwanda National Congress (RNC) have intensified, with disagreements among senior officials exposing growing tensions within the opposition group.
Founded by former Rwandan government officials, including Gen. Kayumba Nyamwasa and Dr. Theogene Rudasingwa, RNC has in recent years faced a series of internal disputes that have affected its leadership and unity.
The latest tensions emerged after senior officials announced their departure from the group’s leadership, citing concerns over governance, cohesion among members, and adherence to the organization’s principles.
In a letter dated June 17, 2026, RNC Second Vice President Ntwali Cédric and Deputy Secretary General Serge Ndayizeye informed members that they were stepping away from the leadership, accusing their colleagues of failing to preserve unity within the organization.
The letter was addressed to fellow leaders, including Dr. Emmanuel Hakizimana, Ali AbdoulKarim, and Dr. Etienne Mutabazi, and highlighted disagreements over the group’s direction and management.
The resignations add to a series of internal disputes that have challenged RNC’s structure and leadership. Former members have also raised concerns about decision-making processes, management of resources, and the organization’s future direction.
The continued disagreements have left the opposition group facing questions over its ability to maintain cohesion and rebuild unity among its members.
