Fleury Iquel Rudasingwa has been appointed head coach of Kigali Women FC with the immediate task of rebuilding the club after its 18-year stay in Rwanda’s top women’s football division came to an end.
The club confirmed Rudasingwa’s appointment as it begins preparations for life in the second division and seeks an immediate return to the top flight.
Kigali Women FC suffered relegation after a difficult 2025/26 campaign in which it finished 11th among 12 teams with 13 points.
The setback ended the club’s 18-year presence in the top division and marked a major fall for a side that has dominated Rwanda’s women’s championship, winning the national title 13 times.
Rudasingwa now takes charge at a club in need of a significant rebuild, with promotion expected to be the central objective.
The coach has experience in Rwanda’s women’s game, having previously worked with La Jeunesse FC before joining Rayon Sports WFC in 2024.
In April 2025, he was appointed head coach of Rayon Sports’ women’s team, replacing Claude Rwaka.
His appointment at Kigali Women FC gives him the responsibility of rebuilding a team capable of competing for promotion while developing players who can help restore the club’s position in the top flight.
The club’s relegation was a sharp departure from its established status in Rwandan women’s football. Having spent nearly two decades among the country’s elite, Kigali Women FC must now navigate the second division while attempting to rebuild its competitiveness.
Rudasingwa will therefore be under pressure to deliver results while laying the foundation for a sustainable return to the top division.
For Kigali Women FC, the new season represents more than a campaign in the second tier. It is the beginning of an attempt to reclaim the status of a club that has historically been one of the most successful forces in Rwandan women’s football.
