Rwanda and Armenia are looking to deepen bilateral relations, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence, advanced technology and innovation, following the presentation of credentials by Rwanda’s Ambassador Maj. Gen. Joseph Nzabamwita to Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan.
The ceremony took place in Yerevan on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, formally accrediting Nzabamwita as Rwanda’s non-resident ambassador to Armenia.
President Khachaturyan called for stronger political dialogue between the two countries and greater efforts to translate their diplomatic relations into concrete cooperation.
“It is very important that we strengthen and develop relations between our two countries,” Khachaturyan said.
He identified artificial intelligence (AI), advanced technology and innovation among the areas where Rwanda and Armenia could expand cooperation.
Nzabamwita thanked the Armenian president for the reception and conveyed greetings from Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame.
The ceremony came two days after Nzabamwita presented copies of his credentials to Armenia’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mnatsakan Safaryan, on August 9.
Rwanda and Armenia have been exploring opportunities to strengthen cooperation in technology, innovation and political engagement, alongside other areas of mutual interest.
Nzabamwita is based in Russia, where he serves as Rwanda’s ambassador. He is also accredited to Armenia, Belarus and Serbia.
The latest diplomatic engagement highlights growing efforts by the two countries to expand bilateral cooperation, particularly in emerging technologies and innovation.
