Rwanda is accelerating efforts to transform its education sector through increased investment and reforms aimed at ensuring that every child has access to quality learning opportunities, Minister of Education Joseph Nsengimana has said.
Nsengimana made the remarks on Thursday, July 16, during a high-level meeting of African education ministers at the opening of the Foundational Learning Exchange (FLEX 2026) in Lilongwe, Malawi.
The minister said education remains a key pillar of Rwanda’s development agenda, adding that the government is committed to strengthening the sector by improving the quality of learning and expanding opportunities for all learners.
He said continued investment in education and the implementation of targeted reforms are essential to ensuring that children acquire the knowledge and skills needed to succeed.
“Rwanda will continue investing in education and implementing reforms aimed at improving its quality, while ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to learn and learn well,” Nsengimana said.
The minister also called on development partners to align their support with the most urgent priorities within each country’s education system, saying stronger coordination is needed to achieve sustainable improvements in foundational learning.
FLEX 2026 has brought together education ministers, development partners and experts from different African countries and beyond to exchange experiences and explore strategies for improving early learning outcomes.
This year’s forum is being held under the theme, “From commitments to results: delivering quality education for more children.”
The meeting focuses on translating education commitments into measurable outcomes by strengthening collaboration among countries, sharing successful approaches and promoting policies that help more children gain essential foundational skills.
Rwanda has in recent years prioritized education reforms aimed at improving access, teacher capacity, curriculum delivery and learning outcomes as part of its broader efforts to build a skilled and competitive workforce.
