Rwanda will host the 6th edition of the YouthConnekt Africa Summit, a major continental gathering bringing together young people, investors, policymakers, and development partners to advance youth-led development across Africa.

The summit is scheduled to take place in Kigali from November 25 to 27, 2026.

The Government of Rwanda recently signed agreements with YouthConnekt Africa partners, including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), confirming the country’s readiness to host thousands of participants from across the continent.

The agreement was signed on Wednesday evening, with Rwanda represented by the Minister of Youth and Arts Development, Dr. Utumatwishima Abdallah.

Platform for youth-driven transformation

This year’s summit will be held under a theme focused on expanding Africa’s future through youth participation, innovation, entrepreneurship, and inclusive development.

It is expected to provide a platform for young people to engage with decision-makers, exchange ideas, and explore opportunities aimed at accelerating sustainable development across the continent.

From Rwanda initiative to continental movement

YouthConnekt Africa was launched in Rwanda in 2012 in partnership with the UNDP as a national programme aimed at connecting young people to skills development, employment, and entrepreneurship opportunities.

Due to its impact, it was scaled up in 2017 into a continental initiative under the YouthConnekt Africa Hub. It is now implemented in 32 African countries.

According to programme data, YouthConnekt has contributed to the creation of over 4 million jobs across participating countries, while more than 60,000 young people have benefited from training and startup support.

The initiative has also helped over 5,000 youth access opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and continues to support innovation through platforms such as the YouthConnekt Awards.

Supporting youth innovation and entrepreneurship

The YouthConnekt Awards recognize outstanding youth-led innovations and provide financial support to scale impactful projects.

Winners receive Rwf 15 million for first place, Rwf 12 million for second place, and Rwf 8 million for third place. Special categories, including women and persons with disabilities, award Rwf 5 million to winners.

Finalists who do not make the top three also receive Rwf 1 million each in seed funding to support their initiatives.

The 2026 summit is expected to further strengthen collaboration between governments, private sector actors, and development partners in advancing youth innovation and employment across Africa.
