Rwanda has expressed satisfaction with the continued strengthening of bilateral relations with Zimbabwe, highlighting expanding cooperation across key development sectors.
The remarks were made during celebrations marking Zimbabwe’s 46th Independence Anniversary, attended by senior government officials and members of the diplomatic corps in Rwanda.
Foreign Affairs Minister Amb. Olivier Nduhungirehe commended the growing partnership between the two countries, noting progress in cooperation in education, energy, peace and security, agriculture, trade and diplomacy.
He also welcomed Zimbabwe’s election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2027–2028 term, describing it as a reflection of the country’s growing international engagement.
Zimbabwe gained independence on April 18, 1980, following the end of colonial rule under Britain, transitioning from Rhodesia to its current name.
Rwanda and Zimbabwe maintain strong bilateral relations, with cooperation spanning economic development, governance and education. The two countries have signed more than 30 cooperation agreements aimed at advancing shared development priorities.
