Semuhungu Eric may face up to 15 years in prison over multiple criminal charges

The Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) has confirmed that the case file of Semuhungu Eric has been submitted to the National Public Prosecution Authority, as he remains under investigation over multiple criminal charges.

RIB spokesperson Dr. Murangira B. Thierry confirmed the development, while reports indicate that Semuhungu was arrested on Thursday, April 9, 2026.

He is accused of three offences, including rape, dissemination of sexually explicit content through a computer system, and defamation.

Under Rwandan law, rape carries a penalty of between 10 and 15 years in prison, along with a fine ranging from 1 million to 2 million Rwandan francs.

The offence of disseminating sexually explicit content through a computer system is punishable by three to five years in prison and a fine of between 1 million and 3 million Rwandan francs.

Defamation-related offences carry a penalty of one to three years in prison and a fine ranging from 100,000 to 300,000 Rwandan francs.

If convicted of the most serious charge, Semuhungu could face up to 15 years in prison.

Semuhungu Eric, 38, is a well-known figure in Rwanda’s entertainment industry, widely recognized for organizing events in high-end bars and nightlife venues.
