South Korea’s newly appointed ambassador to Rwanda, Huh Jungae, has officially begun her diplomatic mission after presenting copies of her credentials to Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Olivier Jean Patrick Nduhungirehe.
Nduhungirehe welcomed Huh to her new assignment and wished her success during her tenure in Rwanda.
Huh takes up the post at a time when relations between Rwanda and South Korea are expanding across technology, trade and investment, education, healthcare, and skills development.
The two countries established diplomatic relations in 1963. Rwanda opened an office representing its interests in South Korea in 2008, which was upgraded to an embassy the following year.
The relationship has gained further momentum in 2026. In June, Nduhungirehe attended the Korea-Africa Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Seoul, where Rwanda reaffirmed its commitment to deepening cooperation with South Korea and exploring new areas of partnership.
Security cooperation has also grown. In August, the Rwanda National Police and South Korean police signed an agreement to strengthen collaboration in combating transnational crime, sharing information and expertise, conducting training, and building police capacity.
Huh has also engaged with Rwanda beyond diplomatic meetings. In August, she visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial.
Her arrival is expected to further strengthen Kigali-Seoul ties, particularly in technology, education, trade, investment, and skills development.
