APR FC striker Uwiyaremye Fidali has been sent home from Rwanda’s national team training camp as the Amavubi prepare for two matches against Mali in the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
The decision was reported by several Rwandan sports journalists, who said the player was dismissed for failing to comply with the team’s training camp schedule.
Players called up from the Rwandan league, together with some foreign-based players who had arrived in the country, began reporting to the camp at the FERWAFA Hotel on Thursday, November 5, 2026.
Fidali was among those called up but failed to arrive at the time stipulated by the team. Players had been instructed to report by 11:40 a.m., but the striker arrived at 1:50 p.m., after a scheduled meeting between the players and the coach had already ended.
The day’s programme included lunch at 12:30 p.m., a team meeting at 1:30 p.m., medical examinations at 3 p.m. and training at 5 p.m.
The situation escalated when Fidali failed to report for training on time, forcing head coach Stephen Constantine and other team members to wait for him for 20 minutes.
When he eventually arrived, Constantine reportedly instructed him to return to his room, collect his belongings and leave the camp.
Reports also indicate that this was not the first time Fidali had faced disciplinary issues during an Amavubi training camp. He reportedly encountered similar problems during the previous camp, but the coach asked that the matter not be made public to protect the young player.
The Amavubi are preparing to face Mali on November 13, 2026, in a 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match.
