Ambassador Wellars Gasamagera has been appointed as a senator representing the National Consultative Forum of Political Organisations in Rwanda’s Parliament.
The appointment was announced on Thursday, September 24, 2026, following approval by the National Consultative Forum of Political Organisations.
Gasamagera replaces Senator Donatilla Mukabalisa, who died on July 30, 2026.
He previously served as Secretary-General of the Rwanda Patriotic Front-Inkotanyi (RPF-Inkotanyi), a position he was elected to in 2023 and held until December 2025. He was succeeded by Ambassador Christophe Bazivamo.
Gasamagera is returning to the Senate, having previously served as a senator from 2003 to 2011.
During his earlier tenure, he was a member of the Senate Standing Committee on Political Affairs and Good Governance.
His latest appointment brings him back to the chamber at a time when Rwanda’s Parliament continues its work on legislation and oversight of national governance.
