REG VC have re-signed outside hitter Ngabo Rwamuhizi Romeo from Kepler VC as the reigning Rwanda men’s volleyball champions continue reshaping their squad ahead of the new season.
Rwamuhizi returns to REG VC after three seasons with Kepler, where he established himself as one of the league’s notable outside hitters.
The move marks a return to the club where Rwamuhizi began his senior career. He joined REG VC in 2019 after completing secondary school at Petit Séminaire Virgo Fidelis de Butare, where he had served as captain, before later moving to Kepler.
At Kepler, Rwamuhizi was part of the squad that won the Heroes Cup and GMT this year, although the team fell short of winning the national championship.
His return gives REG another experienced option in attack as the club prepares to defend its league title. He joins a group of outside hitters that includes Kenyan Nicholas Matui, Gisubizo Merci, Akumuntu Kavalo Patrick, Mpambara Pacifique and Irankunda Fabrice.
Rwamuhizi is the second player REG have brought back from Kepler during the current squad rebuilding period. Middle blocker Tuyizere Jean Baptiste has also returned to REG after his spell with Kepler.
The transfers come as Kepler changes its approach to squad building, with the club opting to place greater emphasis on developing young players rather than continuing to rely heavily on established players.
The shift has resulted in several experienced players leaving the club after their contracts expired.
Kepler entered Rwanda’s top-flight volleyball scene in 2024 with ambitions of competing for major honours and significant investment in its squads. However, the club has yet to win the national league title in its three seasons in the top division.
REG, meanwhile, are using the pre-season period to strengthen a squad that enters the new campaign as national champions.
Rwamuhizi’s return therefore gives REG additional experience in attack while highlighting the changing fortunes of two clubs that have increasingly competed for some of Rwanda’s leading volleyball talent.
