Casablanca, Morocco – October 9, 2025 — Today, Ambassador Umutoni Shakilla visited IKAWA, a Moroccan coffee space born from a deep love story with Rwanda, a place where culture, memory, and aroma intertwine to celebrate the warmth of Rwandan hospitality.
Located in Morocco’s bustling economic capital, Casablanca, IKAWA traces its origins to 2014, when its founder, Mr. Tarik Aboud, first visited Kigali. Captivated by Rwanda’s gentle rhythm of life, its harmonious landscapes, and the genuine kindness of its people, he returned home determined to recreate that same spirit of serenity and connection.
From that inspiration, IKAWA was born, its name meaning “coffee” in Kinyarwanda, where every cup tells a story and every aroma carries a memory of Rwanda. The café embodies more than just a love for coffee; it’s a celebration of cultural exchange, authenticity, and shared humanity.
Staying true to its roots, even the menu at IKAWA is written in Kinyarwanda, serving as a tribute to the language and culture that inspired its creation. Each item connects Moroccan flavors with Rwandan soul, creating a unique blend that delights both the palate and the heart.
During her visit, Ambassador Umutoni Shakilla celebrated IKAWA as a beautiful example of how people-to-people connections can strengthen ties between Rwanda and Morocco. She commended the founder’s vision for building a cultural and human bridge that transcends borders, one that reflects shared values of innovation, hospitality, and heartfelt connection.
“IKAWA is more than a coffee shop; it is a story of friendship between our peoples, a reminder that Rwanda’s spirit of peace, creativity, and warmth can inspire the world,” said Amb. Umutoni.
As the aroma of freshly brewed Rwandan coffee fills the air, IKAWA continues to invite everyone to experience the beauty of Rwanda — not through travel alone, but through taste, language, and emotion.
