Rwandans in Senegal donate over 30 million Rwf to school meal program

Rwandans living in Senegal have contributed more than 30 million Rwandan francs to the Dusangire Lunch program, which provides daily school meals to children.

The Ministry of Education thanked the donors, highlighting that their support complements contributions from parents. Launched in 2022, Dusangire Lunch builds on a 2019 initiative addressing hunger-related school absenteeism and low academic performance.

The program engages parents, teachers, and farmers’ cooperatives to ensure children receive nutritious meals. This has helped prevent students from skipping school or dropping out, especially in rural areas where families often rely on children for farm work.

According to December 2025 data, over four million students nationwide now benefit from daily school meals. Plans are underway to expand school kitchens, diversify meals, and increase food production through school gardens to ensure a steady supply.

Prime Minister [Name] emphasized that improving education quality is a key pillar of Rwanda’s Second National Strategy for Transformation (NST2) 2024–2029.
