The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) has officially unveiled the logo for the country’s top-tier women’s football league, the Rwanda Women Super League (RWSL).
The announcement was made during a press briefing on Friday, led by FERWAFA President Shema Fabrice, which also highlighted preparations for the upcoming Super Cup and other key football events.
Shema emphasized that while women’s football has a long history in Rwanda, it previously lacked a formal league identity. “Today, we give the league a unique name and logo to strengthen its identity and support the growth of women’s football at all levels,” he said.
The inaugural season will feature 12 teams, with rewards for the top six performers. Matches will take place on Sundays, with select games broadcast on FERWAFA+, as coverage for all fixtures continues to expand.
FERWAFA also announced long-term plans to develop girls’ football from age 17, aiming to nurture talent that can reach international competitions.
The new logo incorporates FIFA’s orange color and blue, symbolizing the fight against gender discrimination, according to FERWAFA’s Women’s Football Development Commissioner, Nitka Gicanda. Sponsorship opportunities are being pursued to further grow the league.
The announcement comes ahead of Saturday’s Super Cup finals, where the Rayon Sport women’s team will face Indahangarwa at 3:00 pm, followed by the Rayon Sports men’s team versus APR FC at 6:30 pm.
