The Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) has arrested a young Rwandan man on suspicion of deliberately killing his friend by ramming him with a vehicle in Kigali.
The suspect, Mugisha David Gakuba, reportedly resides in the United States but was visiting Rwanda on holiday when the incident occurred near Green Lounge bar in the city.
The victim, Ngabo Eric, also a US resident, died instantly after being struck.
According to witnesses and videos circulating on social media, the two men had a confrontation before Mugisha deliberately drove his car into Ngabo.
Observers at the scene said Mugisha reversed his vehicle, seemingly to ensure the fatal impact, before later reporting himself to authorities.
Sources say the dispute began online, with both men members of the same WhatsApp group.
Ngabo allegedly removed Mugisha from the group following an exchange of insults, which is reported to have triggered the deadly encounter.
RIB confirmed the arrest, stating that Mugisha is currently held at Kicukiro Station as investigations continue.
“On January 23, 2026, RIB arrested Mugisha David Gakuba on suspicion of involvement in the death of Ngabo Eric. The investigation is ongoing,” an RIB spokesperson told UMUSEKE.
The case has sparked shock and discussions on social media, highlighting tensions among friends and the risks of personal disputes escalating into violence.
