Rayon Sports ended a difficult run of form with a 1–0 win over AS Kigali, reviving their hopes of staying in contention in the Rwanda Premier League.

The match, part of matchday 18 of the Rwanda Premier League, was played on Thursday afternoon, February 5, 2026, at Kigali Pelé Stadium.

Both sides came into the game amid contrasting off-field developments. AS Kigali had recently signed winger Adama Bagayogo from Rayon Sports, while Rayon Sports were buoyed by a new five-year kit sponsorship deal with Jayrutty Investment East Africa Co. Ltd worth Frw 5 billion, under which the club will receive about Frw 1 billion per season.

Both teams had also reinforced their squads with new signings as they seek to improve their league positions.

The opening 30 minutes were evenly contested, with both sides showing attacking intent but much of the battle taking place in midfield.

Rayon Sports broke the deadlock in the 36th minute. Forward Asman Ndikumana was fouled just outside the AS Kigali penalty area, and from the resulting free kick, Emery Bayisenge struck a powerful shot that hit the post. Mugisha Didier reacted quickest to tap in the rebound and give Rayon Sports the lead.

AS Kigali pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but Rayon Sports maintained control of possession and managed the game well until halftime, going into the break with a 1–0 advantage.

AS Kigali returned with more intensity in the second half and created several chances. Adama Bagayogo sent a free kick over the bar, while Olivier Dushimimana “Muzungu” hesitated when through on goal, allowing Rayon Sports defenders to clear the danger.

Rayon Sports introduced Aziz Bassane, returning after 52 days out with a right arm fracture, replacing Sindi Paul Jesus. AS Kigali also made changes, bringing on Gideon Bendecka for Bagayogo to add pace and pressure in attack.

The final 30 minutes saw both teams continue to attack, creating opportunities at either end, but neither side managed to find a decisive finish.

Rayon Sports later brought on Fall Ngagne for Mugisha Didier, while Aimable Ntarindwa replaced Asman Ndikumana as they looked to secure the result.

Despite three minutes of added time, the score remained unchanged and referee Ngabonziza Dieudonné brought the match to an end, handing Rayon Sports all three points.

The victory lifts Rayon Sports to sixth place with 29 points from 18 matches, while AS Kigali remain 14th with 16 points from the same number of games.

The win ends a six-match winless run for Rayon Sports across all competitions. They return to action on February 13 against Police FC in matchday 19 of the Rwanda Premier League.
