Urban Boyz have reunited ahead of their much-anticipated performance at the MTN Iwacu Muzika Festival in Rubavu on August 1, 2026. The nationwide music festival is organized by East African Promoters (EAP).
The trio—Safi, Nizzo and Humble Jizzo—came together on Wednesday after Safi, who now lives in Canada, and Humble Jizzo, who is based in Kenya, returned to Rwanda, where they were welcomed by Nizzo.
Formed in 2008, Urban Boyz rose to become one of Rwanda’s most successful and influential music groups. The trio won numerous awards during its career, including the 2016 Primus Guma Guma Super Star competition, becoming the first group to win the now-defunct contest.
Beyond Rwanda, Urban Boyz collaborated with several leading East African artists, including Jackie Chandiru, Rabadaba, Ykee Benda, Goodlyfe and Big Fizzo. The group also released a string of successful collaborations with some of Rwanda’s biggest musicians.
The group’s breakup began in 2017 when Safi left following a widely publicized dispute with Nizzo. Safi went on to pursue a solo career, while Nizzo and Humble Jizzo continued performing as Urban Boyz before the group gradually became inactive in 2019 after Humble Jizzo relocated to Kenya with his wife.
Although the trio has remained largely absent from the music scene since then, its songs have continued to enjoy lasting popularity among fans.
