Rwanda’s Public Prosecution has played a key role in the arrest of Dieudonné Ishimwe, popularly known as Prince Kid, who had been hiding in the United States after being charged with sexual abuse of minors participating in Miss Rwanda competitions.

Chief Prosecutor Angelique Habyarimana confirmed the arrest on Monday, February 9, 2026, during the launch of a week-long judicial anti-corruption campaign at the Supreme Court. She said authorities followed international procedures to issue a warrant and work with U.S. officials to secure his detention.

“Dieudonné Ishimwe was convicted of sexual assault and confirmed to be in the United States. Standard protocols were used to ensure his arrest,” Habyarimana said.

In 2025, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed that Prince Kid had been detained in Texas after more than a year and a half of being untraceable. Rwanda’s authorities are now coordinating with U.S. counterparts to complete extradition proceedings so he can face justice in Rwanda.

Prince Kid was previously sentenced in absentia by the High Council Court in Rwanda on October 13, 2023, to five years in prison and fined Rwf 2 million after being found guilty of coercing sexual acts and exploiting minors for sexual purposes.
