Rwanda National Police (RNP) has received officers who completed a year-long peacekeeping mission in South Sudan.

The returning team, RWAFPU3-7, largely composed of female officers and led by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Devotha Nyinawumuntu, arrived on February 12, 2026. They were replaced by the new RWAFPU3-8 contingent, led by SSP Dativa Iribagiza, which will serve in South Sudan for one year.

At Kigali International Airport, the officers were welcomed by CP Yahaya Kamunuga, representing RNP leadership. He praised their dedication, professionalism, and discipline. “Welcome home. Your commitment and exemplary conduct have brought honor to our country,” he said.

Deputy commander Vincent Rubimbura highlighted that, beyond security duties, the officers contributed to community development initiatives. These included community service, medical outreach, school repairs, providing clean water, distributing mosquito nets, and supplying underprivileged students with school materials and hygiene kits.

He added that Rwandan officers worked closely with local communities, building trust and strengthening collaboration alongside UN personnel.

Rwanda began sending police officers to South Sudan in 2015. Currently, two Rwandan contingents operate in Malakal and the capital, Juba, supporting peacekeeping and community security efforts.
