Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Amb. Olivier Nduhungirehe, held talks with Tunisia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Mohamed Ali Nafti, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on the sidelines of the 48th session of the African Union Executive Council.

The two ministers discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, with a focus on education, innovation, trade and investment.

Amb. Nduhungirehe also met with Austria’s Special Envoy to the African Union, Herbert Scheibner, where discussions centered on advancing relations between Rwanda and Austria.

Rwanda and Tunisia maintain cordial relations grounded in cooperation across several sectors, particularly transport, health and knowledge exchange. Transport remains a key pillar of collaboration between the two countries.

Rwanda’s Embassy in Morocco oversees Rwanda’s diplomatic interests in Tunisia and Mauritania, as well as in Guinea.

In February 2020, Rwanda and Tunisia signed an air services agreement aimed at opening up airspace between the two countries. The deal was concluded during the 33rd Ordinary Session of the African Union held in Addis Ababa.

Similarly, Rwanda and Austria signed an air transport agreement in 2022, expected to ease movement between the two countries, particularly for business communities.

The agreements cover various provisions designed to promote air transport, including harmonization of legal and regulatory frameworks, airfare arrangements and other operational aspects governing air services between the respective countries.
