A man from Gisagara District is set to face trial over the alleged fatal stabbing of his 45-year-old uncle, following a dispute reportedly sparked by four avocados.

The suspect is being prosecuted before the Intermediate Court of Huye on charges of murder.

According to the Prosecution, the incident occurred on February 18, 2026, at around 4:00 p.m. in Cyahafi Village, Duwani Cell, Kibirizi Sector of Gisagara District.

Investigators allege that the accused stabbed his uncle in the chest, causing his immediate death. In his statement, the suspect is said to have admitted to the act.

He reportedly told investigators that the conflict began after his father gave him four avocados, which he had taken from those his mother was selling and brought home. When his mother returned, she allegedly confronted him and demanded that he return them.

The suspect said he went back to his house, retrieved the avocados and armed himself with a knife before returning. As tensions escalated and his mother allegedly continued to insult him, he attempted to stab her. His uncle, however, intervened in an effort to stop the attack and was instead stabbed in the chest, dying at the scene.

If convicted under Article 107 of Law No. 68/2018 of August 30, 2018 governing offences and penalties in general, the accused faces life imprisonment.
