Rwanda’s Prime Minister, Dr. Justin Nsengiyumva, has arrived in Arusha to represent President Paul Kagame at the 25th ordinary summit of East African Community (EAC) Heads of State, scheduled for March 7, 2026.

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, Dr. Nsengiyumva was received by Tanzania’s Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Dennis L. Londo, alongside Rwanda’s Ambassador to Tanzania, Gen. (Rtd) Patrick Nyamvumba.

The summit will address a range of regional issues, including a review of the Nairobi Agreement aimed at restoring peace in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Other agenda items include reviewing member states’ contributions to the EAC, removing trade barriers, addressing double taxation, and measures to strengthen economic integration within the bloc.

A new EAC chairperson is also expected to be appointed, succeeding Kenya’s President William Ruto. In addition, the summit will confirm the appointment of a new EAC Secretary General and deputies, as well as judicial appointments to the East African Legislative Assembly and the introduction of a unified customs framework across the region.

The summit will also recognize regional academic excellence, with Rwandan student Atete Kagorora from FAWE Girls’ School receiving an award for topping a regional essay competition.
