Rwandan community leaders across the United States gathered in Washington, D.C. last weekend for a two-day retreat focused on strengthening unity, promoting youth development, and enhancing the diaspora’s role in Rwanda’s growth.
According to the Rwandan Embassy in the US, the retreat brought together leaders from different regions to discuss strategies for supporting national development through investment, mentorship, and collaboration with local institutions.
The event follows the Rwanda Convention USA held in July 2025 in Dallas, Texas, which marked 31 years of Rwanda’s liberation alongside US Independence Day celebrations. That convention was a major milestone for the diaspora, connecting Rwandans with business, cultural, and civic initiatives.
During the retreat, participants engaged with Rwandan financial institutions including Bank of Kigali, Equity Bank, BPR, and the Rwanda Social Security Board (RSSB), exploring opportunities in real estate, technology, and other sectors.
Cultural events highlighted Rwanda’s heritage, with traditional dances and performances by popular artists such as The Ben, Meddy, Kevin Kade, and Element EleéeH, drawing enthusiastic participation from the diaspora.
Attendees also accessed government services on-site, including bank account openings and guidance on civic engagement, provided by representatives from the Rwandan government.
The retreat emphasized the diaspora’s growing impact in Rwanda’s economic and social development, while fostering stronger ties between Rwandans abroad and their home country.
